When Should I Keep My Child Home?
When Should I Keep My Child Home?
Students should stay home if they:
- Have a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- Students should only return to school after they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of any fever reducing medications (acetaminophen/tylenol, ibuprofen/motrin, etc.)
- Are vomiting or have diarrhea
- Must be free of either symptom for 24 hours and able to keep food and liquids down.
- Have yellow or green drainage from the eyes (pink eye)
- Students must be evaluated by a medical professional and begin treatment for pink eye before returning to school
- Require antibiotics
- Students must be 24 hours in to antibiotic course before returning to school
- Have a continuous productive cough
- If the student has an occasional cough, they are fine to be in school. Continuous coughing, though, spreads germs and will impact all other students in the classroom/school.
- Have been diagnosed with*:
- Covid-19
- Influenza and Strep
- Chicken Pox
- Measles
- Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
- Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease
*This is not an all inclusive list. Always discuss return to school with your child’s medical provider and follow their guidance
