About Vida Charter School Board of Trustees
We are extremely proud that members of the Board of Trustees represent the diversity that exists among our staff, student and family populations. As a public Charter School founded to serve all students in an inclusive, welcoming, multilingual environment, we know it is important that the school is governed in a similar manner. We are committed to continuing to invite and maintain Board of Trustees members who are diverse in their cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and in their personal experiences and perspectives.
Members of the Board of Trustees are not paid for their service, and they volunteer several hours each month to deliberate over the complex needs of the school. Board decisions affect such key matters as school safety and security, adoption of new and updated policies, oversight of curriculum and student outcomes, hiring, collective bargaining, strategic planning, voting on annual budgets and ensuring the school is in good standing in terms of finance and accountability. The Board of Trustees is also responsible for the annual evaluation of the Executive Director.
According to its Bylaws, Vida Charter School’s Board of Trustees may include between five and eleven members. Up to five members are elected by the school community, and up to six members are elected by the Board. When community elections are held, all current employees, current board members, and parents or guardians of enrolled students are invited to vote.
Vida’s board members serve three-year terms, and may serve for up to three full terms. Board members are expected to attend each regular monthly board meeting, currently scheduled the fourth Monday evening of every month. Each board member also participates on at least one of the three Board committees; Finance, Academic Excellence, or Governance committee. Committees also meet once per month. The Vida Board of Trustees officers include a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Board and Committee Meeting dates, agendas, and approved meeting minutes can be found on the school website. Like other public schools, the Vida board adheres to the Sunshine Act and advertises and holds open meetings. Members of the public may attend the meetings and may participate during public comment.
